106.9 The Bull to Host 28th Annual Colgate Country Showdown
Talent Search Stops Coming to Avon Park & Sebring
Zolfo Springs, Florida (February 17, 2009) - The “Colgate Country Showdown” is coming to 106.9 The Bull Saturday, April 4, 2009. 106.9 The Bull will host the 28th annual edition of America’s Largest Country Music Talent Search and radio promotion at the Peace River Campgrounds in Arcadia. Over $200,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded nationwide along with the $100,000 to the National Winner, presented at the televised special.
Designed to find the most promising country music talent in America, the Colgate Country Showdown gives aspiring artists a chance to launch their professional careers. Thousands of performers compete annually for the Country Showdown title.
Each year, hometown contests sponsored by more than five hundred local radio stations across the country pave the road to stardom. Local winners advance to forty state contests where the prizes include $1,000 in cash and the opportunity to compete at one of the five regional contests in the fall. The five regional winners receive an expense-paid trip to the National Final to compete for the $100,000 and coveted National Title.

The Bull will make talent search stops in the area beginning in Avon Park at Sierra’s Sports Bar and Grill this Thursday, February 19th from 8:00 PM until 10:00PM; and in Sebring at Duffers Sports Grill on Saturday, March 7th from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. “Folks can get some practice in on stage and sign up for the Colgate Country Showdown. Then all they need to do is prepare to sing two songs. Each act will have up to seven minutes to perform in the Colgate Country Showdown on Saturday, April 4th,” said Carolyn Kneller, On-Air Host of Country Nights and Promotions Director at 106.9 The Bull. “It is an exciting community event that provides aspiring artists in our area an opportunity for local, state, regional, and national exposure while promoting a greater appreciation of country music. In addition, we have all types of vendors including food, character drawers, apparel, pony rides, bounce houses and more! It is truly a community and family oriented festival that everyone can enjoy. The best part is admission to watch the show is free!”
Open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, the “Colgate Country Showdown” welcomes individual acts or groups with up to seven members to compete. Acts also must not have performed on a record listed on the national record charts of Billboard, Radio and Records, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding local competition. There is a $15.00 entry fee required of all contestants to begin the Colgate Country Showdown competitions, produced by participating country music radio stations such as 106.9 The Bull.
Proceeds raised during the event will benefit the Desoto-Arcadia Habitat for Humanity. Entry forms are now available for pickup at WZZS-FM 106.9 The Bull Studios 7891 US Highway 17 South, Zolfo Springs. Registration deadline is Friday, March 20, 2009.
