16 Year Old Casey Weston from Naples wins The Bull's 28th Annual Colgate Country Showdown

Arcadia, Florida (April 7, 2009) – Sixteen year old Naples girl wins on Saturday, April 4th at the 28th Annual Colgate Country Showdown Festival at Peace River Campground in Arcadia hosted by 106.9 The Bull.

Casey Weston’s performance of “Stay” written by Jennifer Nettles and her original song “I’m Gone” caught the attention of judges including Johnny "Jay" Johnson, J.R. Wall, Amanda Mercer and Joe Gallimore.

Weston won a contest last year placing her in the opening slot of a local Craig Morgan concert. The Weston Family is spending Spring Break in Nashville and plan to sign Casey up for songwriting clinics this summer.

Weston’s combination of musical talent, stage presence, charisma, musicianship and originality outshined among the eighteen other talented country music acts from around Florida: Mystic River Band (Arcadia), Lacie Klossner (Arcadia), David Shull (Cape Coral), Quickdraw (Myakka City), Shelby Dressel (Band from Avon Park), Victoria K (Elfers), Michael Planeta (Lake Placid), Deborah Chapman (Orlando), Kimberly Baron & The Kayes (Band from Deerfield Beach), Marti Capodiferro (Lake Placid), Turtle (Alva), Kadie Clements (Arcadia), Ronald Pierson (Crystal River), KaDea Hutchison (Arcadia), Kelley Everly (North Fort Myers), Donnie Shaffer (Sebring), Buckshot (Band from Punta Gorda), and Jennifer Yaney (Avon Park).Weston's performance of “Stay” written by Jennifer Nettles and her original song “I’m Gone” caught the attention of judges including, Johnny "Jay" Johnson, J.R. Wall, Amanda Mercer and Joe Gallimore.

This win marks completion of the first step in the national contest. On October 25, 2009 at The Pensacola State Fair, Weston will compete at the state level vying for $1,000, and the opportunity to perform at one of five regional competitions in the fall. Regional winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Final where the grand prize is $100,000 and the coveted National Title.

Saturday’s 2nd place winner from Deerfield Beach is Kimberly Baron and the Kayes, consisting of 17 year old Kimberly Baron lead vocal and acoustic guitar, 15 year old Kelsie Baron vocal and acoustic guitar, and 49 year old Terry King on bass guitar and harmonica. In 3rd place 17 year old Ronald Pierson and band member Gary Moore playing acoustic guitar from Crystal River.

A portion of the proceeds from the Bull’s 28th Annul Colgate Country Showdown Festival benefited Habitat for Humanity.
