SPIRIT OF SUWANNEE TO HOST
COLGATE COUNTRY SHOWDOWN FLORIDA STATE FINAL
Nashville, Tennessee (October 14, 2008) – Spirit of Suwannee in Live Oak is proud to host the 27th Annual Colgate Country Showdown Florida State Final. Contestants for America’s largest country music talent search and radio promotion will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st.
Annually, over 450 radio stations across the country sponsor hometown contests, initiating the year-long talent search with more than 500 live shows. Winners of the local contests advance to their state event where the prizes include $1,000 and the opportunity to compete in one of five regional events. The Southeast Regional will be held on November 16th in Nashville, Tennessee at the Wildhorse Saloon. The regional winners – from across the country - receive an all expense-paid trip to the National Final to compete for $100,000 and the coveted national title of Best New Act in Country Music. The National Final will air nationwide, over syndicated television in March and April.
106.9 The Bull (WZZS-FM) hosted its Annual Colgate Country Showdown March 29th in Arcadia. Local winner, Tricia Lynn Jamison, is set to compete in the Florida State Final November 1. Contestants at this year’s Colgate Country Showdown Florida State Final represent radio stations: WWGR Bonita Springs; FL WBMH Jackson, AL; WHOD Jackson, AL; WQHL Live Oak, FL; WWKA Orlando, FL; WXBM Pace, FL; WIYD Palatka, FL; WKAA Valdosta, GA and WZZS Zolfo Springs, FL.
About the Showdown: Each year, more than 50,000 artists compete in local competitions throughout the U.S. Throughout all four levels – local, state, regional and national – of competition a uniform judging system is used. The 1-10 point scoring system is used for the following categories: Marketability in Country Music, Vocal/Instrumental Ability, Originality of Performance; Stage Presence/Charisma and Talent with bonus points for Song Writing. Past local, state and regional winners include Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Neal McCoy, Sara Evans, Brad Paisley and Billy Ray Cyrus.
